The Temper Trap - Sweet Disposition

This morning I started to re-watch 500 Days of Summer for at least the 9th time.  This song plays early in the film, and always solidifies the mood for me.

Every time I listen to this track I am swept up in the emotion of it, the lyrics, the catchy and consistent guitar riff.  My daughter loves this song as well, she’s only 5 and can’t fully make out the lyrics, but still sings along in the most amazingly cute fashion.

Enjoy!

Koda - The Last Stand

In the office where I work, the one owner has reign over the music that plays throughout the building.

Sadly, this particular owner has the worlds worst taste in music.  His latest genre of choice is 70’s pop and disco.

Not only is this an entirely inappropriate genre of music to be played in any work environment, unless of course you work at Studio 54, the volume at which it is playing pushes the boundaries of annoyance, and edges much closer to anxiety-inducing.

Seeing as today is Monday, and I have now been at work for 9 hours, and will not leave for at least another 2 hours, my anxiety level is creeping up higher and higher.

So I turn to SoundCloud and one of my favorite artists that I follow on the service - Koda.

Koda, or Jordan Sudak, is an artist in Columbia, South Carolina.  He has a style that blends an aggressive beat that forces your attention, with soothing overtones and vocals that literally force a calming vibe into your ears.

This track, The Last Stand, has just saved my Monday, and quite possibly my sanity.

Enjoy!

Ali Thompson is a Philadelphia based artist and photographer.  I was perusing her site today after hearing it mentioned on the daily podcast The Morning Stream, and found this photo she had taken of some Philadelphia street art.
Make sure to check out Ali’s work, she’s a fantastic artist.  http://alithompsonart.com/blog/
The thing that really stands out for me is the Ben Franklin necklace, I love it!

Under the Willow Tree.

My wife, daughter, and I are at a community fair just outside Philadelphia. As my daughter is playing on the inflatable obstacle course in the moderate to heavy rain - I’m enjoying the shelter of this beautiful willow.

Green Day - Holiday [Live]

On my commute into the office this morning I found myself behind a car owned by undoubtedly the biggest Green Day fan I have ever seen.  Their license plate was “1GRN-DAY” and nearly every inch of their trunk lid was covered in Green Day stickers, every tour and every album represented well.

I am certainly not as big a fan as this fellow commuter was, but I am a fan.  The first album I was given as a gift on this amazing new technology, the Compact Disc, back in 1994 was Dookie, Green Day’s debut.  At this time I was listening to a lot of classic rock albums, not much of a fan of early 90’s “pop” music.  The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, things along those lines.  Because of the stark contrast I think Green Day really resonated with me.

Over the years I’ve been a fan from afar so-to-speak.  I’ve never seen them play live, and I haven’t listened to a full album of theirs since Dookie.  But I have always admired them, admired their stance, their bravado.  Critics have come down on them for being “pop punk” - but when it comes down to it, why is that a bad thing?  They make edgy, energetic  punk music that appeals to the masses; nothing wrong with that.

This song in particular, Holiday, off of the American Idiot album, is one I loved instantly.  Even for those who do not count themselves Green Day fans have to admit that the song has a great beat, sound, scope, and dynamic to it.  Whether you agree with the message (ie., the lyrics) is a different matter and one that is political in nature, and therefore not appropriate to bring up in casual conversation.  That aside, this live performance has a fantastic energy to it, and really highlights the song well.

All in all, I thought this was a good Music Monday song/video.

Enjoy!
